1989 Champagne Charles Lafite France (about $60) brought by Barry. A nice, dry
champagne with plenty of acidity to make it refreshing. Hazelnuts and apples were fighting for
time on my tongue. It had a crisp and dry finish. Drinks much bigger than the price would
suggest.

1988 JJ Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese Germany Brought by Deep
Cellar. Slightly sweet without being cloying. Ripe green apples, honey and honeysuckle play out
nicely on the palate. This is a very well balanced wine with plenty of acidity to counter the
sweetness. A long, viscous finish really made this a great wine to pair with the scallops.

1989 Chateau La Tour Blanche France Brought by Bond. What better pairing than
Foie Gras and Sauternes?!? The wine was not as big as I anticipated, but had a lovely
combination of honeyed apricots and peaches. It was light on the palate but had great acidity to
cut through the fat of the goose liver. Medium finish had floral notes.

1999 Aux Murgers Domaine Meo-Camuzet France Brought by No-No. Classic
red Burgundy. Nose was like perfume rising up out of the glass with strawberries and smoke.
Flavors of sweet red cherries and ripe strawberries washed over my tongue and lingered for at
least 20 seconds on the well balanced finish.

2002 Parson’s Flat Shiraz Australia Brought by The Tax Man. WOW, Baby, WOW!
This is a BIG wine... which is a good thing, because there was plenty of herby kick to the lamb.
This inky black/purple wine delivers right up front with loads of ripe blackberry fruit and deep
dark cassis. You almost need a fork to drink this wine! The finish was long, smooth and velvety
with gobs of chocolate covered blackberries to leave your tongue tingling and your toes curled!

1994 Robert Craig Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Brought by ATM. A nice,
smooth, easy drinking Cabernet. It had some blackberry/cassis fruit and toasty oak flavors up
front, with a mellow short finish. It did have an interesting hint of mint on the finish. It was a
nice accompaniment to the cheese since it did not have to do any serious battle with the mild
cheeses.

1996 Turley Zinfandel Black-Sears Vineyard Napa Valley Brought by Yours
Truly. What a different world this Zinfandel lives in! The ruby/garnet color and fragrant nose of
blueberries and asian spices is heavenly. Even at eight years of age, this wine is still going
strong with powerful blueberries and chocolate on the palate and a smooth, long finish with
hints of pepper and spice to keep your attention for a full 20 seconds. Yum!

2000 Saddleback Late Harvest Zinfandel Napa Valley Brought by Yours Truly. I
thought this wine would be a better match with the chocolate than it actually was. Maybe
because it was late in the evening or maybe because it had the unfortunate luck of being paired
with the Turley. Don't get me wrong. This is a delightful wine and I am proud to have it in my
cellar, but it did not posses the depth I was looking for. It had a nice nose of black fruits and
chocolate. The same flavors played out well on the palate, but the structure was just OK. The
finish was pleasant and medium with a sweet cassis ending.
